Attempted murder reduced to wounding with intent
Sonn Macmillan Walker acted for T who stabbed a man in the heart. He was initially charged with attempted murder.
The knife penetrated the victim’s heart. The assault took place outside a hospital and the victim was operated on in that hospital. The medical evidence was that had the victim not been treated immediately then he would most certainly have died.
Police charged our client with attempted murder. The CPS subsequently indicated they would accept a guilty plea to s18 wounding with intent, to which our client pleaded guilty. He also pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and assault on an emergency worker.
He was sentenced to 7 years and 9 months’ imprisonment with an extended 5 year sentence. This was lower than the starting point in the Sentencing Council Guidelines for such an assault. Lorena Lowen was T’s solicitor and Tim Walker represented him in court.
