FCA Investigations

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is an independent non-governmental body, given statutory powers by the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (FSMA).

The FCA is the principal City regulator with powers to investigate not only regulatory breaches but also offences created by the FSMA.  These include market abuse, insider dealing and the marketing of unauthorised investment schemes.

The recent turmoil in the financial markets has led to significant recruitment by the FCA of experienced prosecutors.

We can expect much more prosecution activity from the FCA in the future. Sonn Macmillan Walker's founding partner, David Sonn spent the early part of his career as a commercial lawyer and later in the legal and corporate finance department of a major investment bank. This gives him a unique insight and ability to be able to handle FCA investigations and prosecutions.

He is currently acting in relation to a Ponzi scheme investigation and an allegation of unauthorised share trading.
