Amy Cox Maintains Next Generation Partner Status in The Legal 500 2027
01 October 2026
Sonn Macmillan Walker is delighted to announce that Amy Cox, Head of Litigation, has maintained her status as a “Next Generation Partner” in The Legal 500 2027 rankings for Crime: General in London.
The Legal 500 describes its Next Generation Partners as junior partners who have achieved “significant recognition from clients and peers in the market” and who play key roles across multiple matters. Amy is one of a select group of practitioners recognised in this category within the London Crime: General rankings.
Amy is Head of Litigation at Sonn Macmillan Walker and leads the firm’s busy Crown Court department. Her practice encompasses a broad range of serious and complex criminal matters, with particular expertise in large, multi-handed conspiracies involving the production, importation and supply of drugs, including cases involving substantial and complex telephone evidence. She also has extensive experience defending allegations involving firearms, sexual offences, serious violence and fraud.
In its latest editorial commentary, The Legal 500 specifically recognises Amy as being “well-versed in handling violent crimes, immigration cases, and sexual offences”. She is also named as one of the three lawyers jointly leading Sonn Macmillan Walker’s Crime: General practice, alongside Leah Connolly and Katy Smart.
Amy has developed a particular reputation for providing exceptional client care throughout complex and often highly stressful criminal proceedings. Alongside her casework and leadership of the Crown Court department, Amy is a founding member and Vice Chair of Women in Criminal Law.
Comments include:
"Amy Cox stands out. She is calm under pressure, decisive on strategy and unusually good at holding the shape of a case through its inevitable disruptions. Counsel are listened to rather than merely instructed, and her judgment on when to push and when to hold is reliably sound. She is a solicitor one is glad to be instructed by."
Her continued recognition as a Next Generation Partner reflects her established reputation within criminal defence and her significant contribution to Sonn Macmillan Walker’s serious crime practice.
The recognition comes alongside another strong year for the firm in The Legal 500, with Sonn Macmillan Walker maintaining its Tier 2 ranking for Crime: General in London. The Legal 500 notes the firm’s depth of expertise across high-profile criminal matters, including extradition, murder, assault and money laundering cases.
We are extremely proud to see Amy’s work and continued contribution to the firm recognised once again by The Legal 500.
