David Sonn Recognised in The Legal 500 Hall of Fame 2027

We are incredibly proud to announce that Sonn Macmillan Walker’s founder, David Sonn, has been recognised in The Legal 500 Hall of Fame for Crime: General in London.

The recognition is a fitting acknowledgement of David’s outstanding career in criminal defence and his longstanding contribution to the profession.

David founded the firm in 1992 with the ambition of building one of London’s leading specialist criminal law practices. More than three decades later, Sonn Macmillan Walker has grown into one of London’s largest specialist criminal defence firms, regularly instructed in serious, complex and high-profile cases.

Throughout his career, David has acted in cases at every level, from the Magistrates’ Court to the Supreme Court, and has represented clients in some exceptionally complex proceedings. His practice has encompassed serious and high-profile crime, financial and white-collar crime, road traffic offences, planning enforcement and regulatory matters.

Among his many notable cases, David represented the only defendant to be acquitted in the high-profile HBOS fraud trial, a case involving more than 200,000 pages of evidence. He also represented the successful appellant before the Supreme Court in R (Palmer) v Northern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court, concerning the criminal liability of administrators under insolvency legislation.

Over the years, David has earned a reputation not only for his command of the law and meticulous knowledge of his cases, but also for the determination and judgement he brings to representing his clients.

His admission to The Legal 500 Hall of Fame is richly deserved and recognises the exceptional contribution he has made to criminal defence over more than three decades.

As the founder of Sonn Macmillan Walker, David has also played an instrumental role in shaping the firm into what it is today. We are extremely proud to see his career and contribution recognised with this prestigious accolade.
