Successful Self-Defence Argument Secures Acquittal in Threats to Kill and ABH Case
27 July 2026
We successfully represented a client at Inner London Crown Court charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and threats to kill. The defence case centred on self-defence, with the prosecution witnesses alleged to have been the aggressors and to have given unreliable accounts.
A key feature of the defence preparation was the careful analysis of the prosecution evidence and witness accounts.
Inconsistencies in the prosecution case were identified and exposed during the course of the trial. This was particularly significant given that the client’s previous convictions were admitted before the court, making it essential to keep the focus firmly on the reliability of the prosecution evidence and the lawfulness of the client’s actions in self-defence.
On the final day of trial, the client was found not guilty of threats to kill. The jury was discharged without reaching a verdict on the allegation of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The prosecution subsequently confirmed that no retrial would be sought and offered no evidence on that count, bringing the proceedings to an end.
Phoebe Coleman was the solicitor with conduct of the case. James Conroy of 5KBW was instructed as trial counsel.
Our client was delighted with the outcome of the matter:
