Daniel Cavaglieri

Daniel is an Associate Director at Sonn Macmillan Walker and head of the Magistrates' Court team.

Daniel qualified in 2009. He is an expert criminal defence solicitor who offers his clients a complete service from investigation to trial.

He acts for individuals facing criminal allegations from homicide and other violent offences to serious sexual assaults, drugs, communications, and motoring offences. Whatever the allegation, Daniel understands the impact of an investigation or proceedings on his clients and gives the same intense commitment to all his cases.

Daniel joined SMW in 2017 having practised at other leading defence firms and he is a key member of SMW. Ultimately, many cases turn on making the right judgement call at the right time. Daniel’s judgement is truly excellent and results in the cases below speak for themselves.

Representation at the Police Station and Pre-Charge Advice

It is essential to obtain expert advice as early as possible. Daniel has been representing clients at the police since 2006. He knows the criminal justice system inside out and advises clients on what needs to be done and when. Important evidence may need to be secured or letters written to investigators and other decision makers such as the CPS. However, it may be that saying and doing nothing is the best course of action. Showing your hand too soon can cause problems later down the line. Only someone with years of experience and who is familiar with current practise can give you that advice.

Fearless Advocate and Great Tactician

Daniel regularly attends the magistrates’ court and has done so since qualifying in 2009. Daniel has secured not guilty verdicts for many clients over the years. His extensive knowledge of the law and procedure ensures his clients know exactly how to maximise their chances of success. Daniel is always well prepared for every hearing he attends and does not shy away from a difficult legal argument.  He is an intelligent individual, is fully versed in all the ‘tricks of the trade’ and he is a persuasive advocate.

Crown Court Litigator

Daniel also represents clients facing trial in the Crown Court. He is a tenacious litigator with a meticulous eye for detail who will go the extra mile for his clients. The key to Daniel’s success is his ability to unravel complex evidence and present compelling evidence for the defence. He also benefits from an ability to listen and get the best out of clients. His case organisation skills and attention to detail often unearths disclosure that is case breaking.

"I slept the best I have in a long while and hopefully I never need to use you again in my lifetime, but I know I would be confident if I ever needed a solicitor in the future you would be the first person I would contact. "

"I just wanted to drop a quick email, to say a massive thanks I don’t know if you have reviews of your services but I wanted to say me and my family are so appreciative of the support, legal advice and representation you gave me over the last few weeks and during the plea. I think this case could have gone a different way without someone of your knowledge , expertise and professionalism. "
