Compliance with Article 3 remains a Greek myth

By  |  09.07.2019

Sonn Macmillan Walker represented an Albanian national wanted in Greece for offences relating to cultivation of cannabis. A European Arrest Warrant was issued in respect of our client who had previously worked in Greece but had been living and working in the UK for the past two years with his family.

Sonn Macmillan Walker have a good record with Greek extradition cases following the landmark Article 3 ruling in the case of Marku-v-Greece.We were able to demonstrate that the Greek Judicial Authority were unable to provide assurances that our client’s Article 3 rights (prevention from inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment) would be protected at Chios prison due to overcrowding and poor conditions. Our client was extremely happy to be able to remain in the UK with his family and continue to be a hardworking member of his community.

Christopher Stevens was the solicitor who represented our client.
