Sex blackmail case dropped by CPS

By  |  12.09.2018

Chris Stevens of Sonn Macmillan Walker represented a 65 year old man accused of attempting to arrange to meet a child after grooming.

The defendant was a man of good character and was caught in a ‘paedophile hunter’ sting when he answered an advert on an adult website. The advert was actually posted by a man whose motive was blackmail.

The defendant handed over large sums of money and eventually reported the man to the police. He was subsequently arrested and charged himself.

After two days of pre-trial argument the CPS offered no evidence resulting in the defendant’s acquittal.
