Ahlam Omar

Ahlam is a Solicitor in the Extradition Department. She qualified in September 2026.

Since joining the firm in August 2023 and beginning her training contract in September 2024, she has developed a strong extradition practice and plays an active role in defending individuals facing extradition to a wide range of jurisdictions. She is known for her thorough case preparation, clear analytical approach, and her ability to manage complex matters with professionalism and care.

Background and Education

Before joining Sonn Macmillan Walker, Ahlam worked as a paralegal within the extradition department of a West London criminal defence firm, following earlier experience at His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service. These roles provided her with a solid understanding of the criminal justice system and the pressures faced by clients navigating extradition proceedings.

Ahlam completed her LLB at City, University of London in 2018, receiving both the Lord Mayor of London Scholarship for Academic Excellence and The City Law School Prize for Outstanding Performance in Criminal Law. She went on to complete a Master’s specialising in legal practice at the University of Law in May 2023, strengthening her academic foundation in law.

Extradition Experience

Ahlam has developed substantial experience in extradition litigation and regularly prepares cases before both the Magistrates’ Court and the High Court under the supervision of Katy Smart. Her work encompasses analysis of human rights considerations, together with the technical arguments that commonly arise in extradition proceedings. 

She has assisted in resisting extradition requests from European Union member states, as well as other jurisdictions including the United States, Türkiye and South Africa, providing her with wide‑ranging experience in cross‑border litigation.

Her role includes managing complex evidence, preparing defence materials, coordinating expert evidence, and working with counsel throughout the proceedings. She has contributed to successful outcomes in cases involving mental health vulnerabilities, Article 3 prison condition challenges, and proportionality arguments.
