Enrico Braguglia

Enrico joined Sonn Macmillan Walker in January 2023. In June 2026, he qualified as a solicitor through the Solicitor's Qualifying Examination (SQE).

Enrico volunteered as a Student Adviser at Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre. Enrico completed a first degree in International Law at Leiden University, The Netherlands, and then went on to complete a Bachelor of Laws- Senior Status at Queen Mary University of London, where he was awarded the Public International Law Prize.

At Sonn Macmillan Walker, Enrico has developed a wide range of experience in extradition law. He regularly prepares magistrates' and High Court extradition cases under the supervision of Katy Smart.

Enrico has successfully assisted in defeating extradition requests from various states, and has actively prepared cases from several requesting states including: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Malta, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Spain, Moldova and the USA. Recent cases have included a full range of issues including complex arguments pertaining to forum arguments, prison conditions and human rights issues.

Enrico prides himself on his excellent client care. He frequently deals with clients who suffer from mental health problems, including young clients and clients facing asylum and immigration proceedings alongside extradition proceedings. Enrico is fluent and can take instructions in Italian, French and Spanish, a quality which is crucial to a good extradition lawyer.

Extradition to Sweden Refused Due to Catastrophic Effect On Family Life Rights and Children’s Welfare

The Court discharged our client from a Swedish extradition request, seeking her surrender to face prosecution for a number of alleged tax fraud, false accounting and money laundering offences involving around £2 million. The Court found that extradition would not be compatible with the client’s rights pursuant to Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Court Blocks Extradition Over Unreliable Assurances From Greece and Lack of Re-Trial Rights

The Court discharged our client from a Greek extradition request seeking his surrender to serve a 10-year sentence for grievous bodily harm arising from an acid attack. The Court found that the prison assurances provided by Greece were unreliable and that Greek law does not guarantee an automatic right to a retrial.

Extradition Request to Poland Withdrawn

Our client had already faced an extradition to Poland in 2012 for the same matters in this case. SMW were able to argue against the extradition citing reasons of abuse of process.
